The Simpsons Movie premiered on 21st July in Springfield, Vermont. 20th Century Fox held a contest to select 1 of 16 possible Springfields in the US, to decide which city would host the premiere. Springfield, Vermont won, just beating out Springfield, Illinois.

It’s been 18 years and 400 episodes since The Simpsons first appeared, and although the idea of a movie seemed like a bad idea initially, these trailers have proved me wrong. In short, it looks like The Simpsons Movie is definitely going to be worth the wait.

If you want a few hints at the movie’s plot: When Homer mistakenly pollutes the river with toxic waste from the power plant, Green Day get poisoned and drown in the fetid Lake Springfield after interrupting a Duff Beer-sponsored show. Marge goes off on a hare-brained journey of spiritual discovery. Lisa Simpson falls in love with an Irish charmer named Colin (Farrell?), while researching her school presentation on climate change (called An Irritating Truth), and there’s a scene where Bart skateboards without any clothes on. But I don’t want to spoil the movie by giving any more information than that.
