Creepy Face

The Creepy Face Emoticon is a scary story about a girl who receives a strange e-mail when she goes online.

Creepy Face

Every day, when I come home from work, I spend the whole evening sitting at the computer, catching up with my friends on facebook or checking my e-mails.

One day, I came across a strange e-mail. It was from a girl I went to school with but we hadn’t seen each other in years. There was no subject line and when I opened it up, there wasn’t even much of a message inside. It just read: “Sorry”

Beside that, there was a single emoticon with a link beneath it. It was kind of creepy. You know the smiley face with one eye winking and the tongue hanging out.

I didn’t click the link because I assumed it was some type of virus. Instead, I just deleted the message as spam.

The next day, when I came home from work and checked my e-mails, there was another message waiting for me. It was from a boy I dated years ago, but we hadn’t talked since the breakup. The message was the same as before: “Sorry!” with the creepy face emoticon and a link.

I was curious, so I clicked on the link. It opened up a window with bold white lettering on a black background:

“Do you want to know how much time you have left?”

Below it, there were “Yes” and “No” buttons.

Shrugging my shoulders, I clicked “Yes”.

All of a sudden, a picture popped up on the screen and I recoiled in disgust. It was a photo of a bloody corpse that had been hacked up like a piece of meat. It was horrific.

Under the photo, in bright white letters, it read:

“42 hours…”

“What the heck?” I gasped and I immediately closed the website.

Just then, I happened to catch sight of my reflection in the monitor. I swear I could clearly see a man’s face peering over my shoulder. His tongue was hanging out and he was winking at me.

Terrified, I whirled around but there was no one behind me and the room was empty.

I was shaking and it took me a while to calm own. I just couldn’t get the face of that creepy man out of my head.

I e-mailed my ex-boyfriend and asked him why he had sent me that link, but he didn’t reply.

On Friday, I met some of my friends after work and we went to a local club. It was fun and we spent the night dancing and drinking. Around 3 AM, the club was closing, so we decided to go home.

I jumped in a taxi and gave the driver my address. As the taxi pulled away, I caught sight of a man in the street. He was standing outside the club and he was staring directly at me. I only caught a brief glimpse of his face, but I recognized him immediately.

He was winking at me and his tongue was hanging out. A chill ran down my spine. I was sure it was the same man I had seen reflected on the computer monitor.

When I finally got home, my head was spinning.

“Maybe I just had too much to drink,” I told myself. “Maybe I imagined the whole thing.”

I flopped down on the bed and fell asleep.

The next day, I woke up with a splitting headache. I didn’t feel like eating anything and just spent the day sitting at home, watching TV.

In the evening, I turned on the computer and checked my emails. My inbox was empty. All of a sudden, a message popped up on the screen:

“Your time has come to an end.”

Just then, the lights went out and I heard a loud roar coming from the computer. It was so loud, it made the speakers rattle. I got such a fright I almost fell out of my chair.

The computer screen went black and bright white letters scrolled across the screen:

“DOOR OPEN THE DOOR OPEN THE DOOR OPEN THE DOOR OPEN THE DOOR OPEN THE DOOR OPEN THE DOOR OPEN THE DOOR OPEN THE DOOR OPEN THE DOOR OPEN THE DOOR OPEN THE…”

The speakers hissed and I could clearly hear anguished cries and agonized moans.

All of a sudden, there was a loud knocking at my front door. I was too scared to answer it. The knocking grew louder and louder.

I tried to shut down the computer. I even pulled the plug out of the socket, but it wouldn’t turn off.

Suddenly the knocking at the door stopped and there was an eerie silence. I sat there waiting, my heart beating fast and sweat trickling down my face.

Just then, I heard a scratching at my window. When I turned around, I saw a man pressing his face up against the window. He was leering at me, with one eye pressed against the glass and his tongue hanging out, drooling.

He started banging on the window.

I quickly opened my e-mail and searched for someone I didn’t know very well. I came across a guy I had gone to school with years before. His name was Jarod.

I opened the message with the creepy face emoticon and the link. In the subject line, I wrote “So sorry” and forwarded it to him.

All the while, I could hear the man outside my window trying to break through the glass.

As soon as I clicked “Send”, the banging stopped. I looked around and the man was gone. Everything was quiet again.

For the next couple of days, I didn’t dare to venture online. I was too scared. Eventually, I decided to check my e-mails. The first message in my inbox was from a friend of mine.

“Did you hear what happened?” she wrote. “Remember that guy Jarod who was in our class? Well he and his wife were murdered last night while they were sleeping in their bed. The newspaper said they were chopped into pieces, like pieces of meat. My God! It’s so terrible. Ever since I found out, I’ve been afraid to go to sleep. Anyway, I thought I should let you know…”
