Wild Rose

The Wild Rose is a scary urban legend about a girl named Elisa Day (or Eliza Day) who was murdered by her boyfriend many years ago. The story inspired the Nick Cave song “Where the Wild Roses Grow”.

Wild Rose

Many years ago, in Ireland, there was a young woman named Elisa Day. People called her The Wild Rose because they said she was as beautiful as the wild roses that grew down by the river, all bloody and red.

One day, a young man came into town and from the first moment he set eyes on Elisa Day, he knew she was the one. He went to her house, knocked on her door and introduced himself. He took her in his arms and kissed her ruby red lips.

On the second day, the young man came back. He brought her a single red rose and told her she was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. He asked her to meet him down by the river where the wild roses grew so sweet and scarlet and free.

On the third day, he took her down to the river. She stood on the bank and gazed silently into the water. The man kissed her lips one last time. Then he waited until her back was turned and beat her to death with a rock in his hand. As he killed her, he whispered, “All beauty must die…”

He placed a rose between her teeth, and slid her body into the river and she slowly disappeared beneath the clear, calm surface. Her body was never found and over the years, her real name was forgotten. She was just referred to as The Wild Rose.

Many people claim to have seen her ghost wandering along the banks of the river, where the wild roses grow. Her head is bashed in and blood is running down her face. They say she clutches a single rose in her hand.

  • Who the …. lets a stranger introduce themself then KISS THEM??? That’s honestly idiocracy right there. Has nobody told them about the DANGER OF A STRANGER???

  • I mean like really…i mean she is just dumb i mean who the. ….. does that wow she might be really pretty but she is also really dumb….. i hate girls like that

  • How do you go to a strangers house, introduce yourself, then kiss them? Like..that’s not how it works right? LOL

  • Didn’t her parents warn her about STRANGER DANGER???? OR WERE THEY ONLY FOCUSED ON HER BEAUTY.

  • Why in the world did she go out to meet a strange man? And HE DAMN KISSED HER ON THE FIRST MEETING ITSELF?! SERIOUSLY PEOPLE,THUS STORY should go to the stupid stories section.

    2/10 wildroses.

  • How about he stabs her eyes in with the thorns of wild roses? Then her ghost has blood flowing out of her eyes, mingling with the petals in her beautiful, tangled hair. And, yes, she holds a single, bloodstained rose.

  • that girl was stupid because she went to the river even though she didnt know him . she deserved it ……………………

  • I read about this in a book but her name was Ellie Hanley and her ghost is known as the Colleen Bawn.(White Girl)

  • Since everyone is commenting on the fact how the man and woman kissed the first time meeting each other, I’m going to give my opinion. From what I believe, this story was set in a time period where this was totally normal, such as the 1700s or something.

  • On the first meeting, the man kissed her lips? Like seriously? He is a psycho from the very beginning…

  • Okay, well, sad and not this story but everything else I read is super scary!! I couldn’t sleep last night thinking the chain letter marissa and them were coming at three a.m like said so I woke up (self concoius) at 126 and didn’t fall back asleep till 308 and they woke me up at 7!! (my sisters becuz they had to work)

  • 1. The girl was all red and bloody like the roses ?
    2. The man knocked on her door, introduced himself and KISSED HER ? Seriously ?
    3. He man came again the next day, gave her a rose and asked her out.
    4. The next day the man killed her because he thought that all beauty must die.
    5. I find the story funny.

  • I found this moved way to fast for my liking. There was no build up, I could easily predict what was going to happen. But, really, it was this girls lack if common sense that got her killed. She should have known better, for no one should kiss a man the day she meets him. But after all, that is just my opinion.
