    the Sweeney Todd movie that “recently” came out was based on numerous pieces of work, including real historical events. There is also a book (if my memory serves me correctly), a play/musical, and a few movies made in the 70′s through the 90′s, I think.I cannot recall the exact date(s). and yes, I believe he did know of the story behind the movie before he agreed to work on it.
