Listen Up

Listen Up is a scary story about a person who notices weird things begin to happen when strangers speak to them in public.

Listen Up

Listen up. Listen very carefully to what I have to say. I have something very important to tell you.

I’ve never really believed in the supernatural, but lately something very strange has been happening to me.

It all started a few weeks ago. I was standing in line at the supermarket and I noticed that the woman on the checkout was staring at me. Her lips were twisted into an eerie smile. I tried to ignore her and just paid for my groceries, but that’s when it happened.

As I was leaving, she said, “Have a nice day.”

For a moment, I just stood there in complete shock. I couldn’t believe what had just happened.

The second time I noticed it, I was walking down the street. There was a man coming towards me. He was staring directly at me and he was grinning from ear to ear. It was that same eerie smile.

As he passed me, he said, “Good morning.”

I stopped in my tracks and stood there trembling, unable to believe what was going on.

Since then, other people have spoken to me. I’m beginning to think I’m losing my mind. I even went to the doctor. He told me it wasn’t possible. He said it couldn’t happen, but yet I know it is happening.

You may be wondering why I’m so frightened. You may think I’m overreacting, but here’s the problem: I shouldn’t be able to hear anything at all. You see, ever since I was born, I’ve been completely deaf.

  • @Wonderkill the doctor must know sign language
@HorrorFanGirl no because he can only hear what those people say to him . he can’t hear the cars birds nothing only what those things say to him

  • My dear @XxSmilexX, if you re read the story carefully, it says that the narrator only hears some people talking to him. And those few are smiling like creeps. And, he was deaf so how can he possibly make out what voiced words means? Got me?

  • Wow ლ(́◉◞౪◟◉‵ლ) I give it a 9/10

  • Omg… That would be really terrifying for me since I am deaf all my life and hear nothing at all… And I would cry cos I don’t want to be hearing

  • At first, I was like, “Whaaaaaaaaaaat? I don’t get it!”
When I read the last paragraph, I didn’t say anything. I didn’t need to, because my facial expression was enough to explain how I felt. My jaw LITERALLY dropped open. I’m not joking. Seriously, AWESOME story! I give it a 10 out of 10 purple rabbits.

  • Hey SFK! THIS IS MY SECOND STORY. HOPE YOU LIKE AND PUBLISH IT. SORRY “YOUR-STORY” SECTION WAS TOO CROWDED TO COMMENT
When I was a child, my favourite person in the whole world was my granny. She used to tell me stories to make me fall asleep. Each night she had a new one. She lived in a village and rural people had myths, legends to protect their children from the unknown. one day it so happened that a man came knocking at her door. She was in her washroom, the man called out once for my gramps. I answered the door and that odd looking man handed me over a packet addressed to my grandpa who was at work. when granny came out, I told her what has happened. My mother would have screamed at me for opening the door to a stranger but my granny gave me a calm look and told me to be at the table for lunch. after we took our lunch, we went to bed and asked granny for a story. She caressed my hair and told me the story I have not yet forgotten. It was something like this: when I was young I was very dear to my aunt. She used to come twice a week to visit me and she always brought something for me to eat. I still remember, she always carried a yellow handkerchief with her. One day while both my parents were out attending a funeral of someone I didn’t know, I stayed home alone studying. At mid-day I heard my aunt call for me once. I was delighted because I was informed by my parents that she won’t be visiting me as she was ill. I rushed outside and welcomed her inn. She looked sick but had a smile on her face. She came inside and sat on the sofa. After talking this and that, she asked me to give her a glass of water. I went to the kitchen and from in there I could see my parents coming homewards. I was excited to surprise them and rushed to my aunt only to find the sofa empty. I was stunned. By that time my parents came in. My mother asked me angrily why I kept the door open. I looked at them with a blank face and told them everything that happened. They looked at me with utter disbelief and told me that my aunt expired that day at day-break. I was awed. I told them that it was impossible ’cause I saw her with my own eyes. She was sitting here… I showed them the sofa but what I couldn’t imagine happening was finding the handkerchief she always used. My father took it and burned it. my mother told me that legend has it… Spirits call out for their loved ones for once to see them for the last time but even ghouls do the same. One can never know when a ghoul comes in the form of your near and dear ones and harm you. So never answer anybody who has called you for once and never open the door to a stranger. The stranger might not be a human. as my grandmother finished her story I looked into her eyes and I thought what could have happened if that man was a ghoul. What could it have done with me. I promised my grandmother not to answer if I am called just for once and not to open the door to strangers. now that I am 19, I think about it as a trick to keep me safe but the thought of what could have happened still haunts me. Maybe my grandmother was right or wrong but I still shiver if I heard anyone calling for me once and wait until I hear them call me for the second time. Have a goodnight :)

  • Oh… Very amazing story…… I m speechless I have nothing to say… But isn’t it can be possible that the man just was imagining things…. I mean hallucinating…. Anyways good job..
