Laughing Bag

The Laughing Bag is a creepy story from Japan about a children’s toy that emits a creepy laugh. It’s a popular scary story on japanese websites, but I don’t know if you will find it as creepy as Japanese people do.

Laughing Bag

I remember when I was young, one of my best friends was a kid named Brian. On the weekends, a bunch of us would all go over to his house to play because he had a lot of toys.

One Saturday, in the middle of winter, when we called around to his house, his mother told him he had to clean up his bedroom. She wouldn’t let anybody play with anything until the room was tidy.

Since we had all helped make the mess, we decided to pitch in and help him. After about 20 minutes, we almost had everything put back in its proper place.

Just then, we all heard a strange and unnerving sound.

“AAAAAAAH HAHAHA HAH HAHAHA HAH HAHAHA!”

It sounded like the deep, eerie voice of a man, laughing like crazy.

“AAAAAAAH HAHAHA HAH HAHAHA HAH HAHAHA!”

Everyone stopped and looked at each other, eyes wide with fear.

“AAAAAAAH HAHAHA HAH HAHAHA HAH HAHAHA!”

At first, we couldn’t tell where the laughter was coming from.

“AAAAAAAH HAHAHA HAH HAHAHA HAH HAHAHA!”

Then, gradually, we realized it was coming from the closet.

We all exchanged nervous glances. Cautiously, Brian opened the closet door and reached inside. He rummaged around for a minute, then pulled something out.

He turned to us and smiled. “Ah, so that’s what it was,” he said.

In his hand, he was holding a small yellow bag with a picture of a clown on it.

“It’s a laughing bag!” he explained. “My mom bought it for me years ago. I forgot I even had it. When you squeeze the bag, it laughs in a funny voice.”

We all breathed a sigh of relief.

He squeezed the bag to demonstrate it, but the bag wasn’t laughing.

“That’s odd,” he said. “I can’t get it to work.”

We all started fiddling with the laughing bag, trying to get it to work. However much we squeezed it, the bag wouldn’t make a sound.

“Maybe the batteries are wasted,” I suggested as I opened the bag and took out the odd pink plastic device inside.

I got a bit of a fright when I saw it. The thing seemed to resemble a rotting heart.

It dropped from my hands and rolled around on the ground in front of us.

That’s when we saw that there were no batteries in it.
