John Carpenter not only directed the original Halloween Movie, he also composed the music. Many critics say that the creepy soundtrack is what makes the movie so scary. Although the tune is simple, the repetitive piano creates a forboding and unnerving atmosphere. He was influenced by Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells which was used in The Exorcist and the music of the Italian synth-rock band Goblin which was used in many Dario Argento movies.
