The Darkness
The Darkness Under The Stairs is a scary story about a young girl who claims there is a ghost in her bedroom but her family won’t believe her.

It was at breakfast on a Saturday morning that Julie first made her announcement. She put down her spoon, swallowed the last mouthful of cornflakes and said “There’s a ghost in my bedroom”.
But no-one took any notice. Her mother kept cooking, her father kept reading the newspaper and her brother just ignored her, which is what he usually did.
Julie’s eyes narrowed. “It’s a frightening ghost”, she said. “With great big eyes, and teeth, and horrible nasty claws. Big claws. And it smells.”
“Ghosts aren’t like that, her brother said. “Ghosts have clanking chains and skeletons and they carry their heads under their arms.”
All the rest of the day, Julie kept claiming that there was a horrible ghost haunting her bedroom and her brother kept calling her a liar and threatening to tell their mother Julie was making up lies.
Eventually by nighfall, Julie’s mother had enough of the arguing and told Julie to stop scaring her brother with tales of ghosts.
“Ghosts aren’t real” said her mother. “you know that Julie. They just exist in books and scary stories. They’re not real. Stop scaring your brother”.
Julie was angry that no-one would believe her and stormed off to bed. An hour later, her brother went to bed too. He shut off his bedroom light and climbed beneath the covers.
