Cheating Boyfriend

The Cheating Boyfriend is a sad ghost story about a Japanese girl who has a fight with her boyfriend when she sees him with another woman.

This is a story about my friend Kazumi. She and I have been best friends ever since we met in college.

One day, Kazumi and her boyfriend had a big fight. The reason for the fight was that Kazumi saw her boyfriend with another girl. She was convinced he was cheating on her and she was furious.

Her boyfriend refused to admit that he had been with any other girl. No matter how many times she accused him of cheating, he kept denying it.

The fight escalated, until they were shouting at each other and calling each other bad names. Eventually, her boyfriend had had enough.

“Fine!” he shouted. “Have it your way!”

With that, he threw something against the wall as hard as he could and walked out, slamming the door behind him. Kazumi threw her cell phone and a stuffed toy at door.

“Don’t bother coming back!” she shouted.

It was the last time Kazumi ever saw her boyfriend.

On the way home, her boyfriend was speeding on his motorcycle. He took a turn without signalling properly and a truck crashed into him. He was killed instantly.

Kazumi was inconsolable. She cried for weeks and weeks. The worst thing about it was that the last time she ever saw him, they were fighting.

I tried to comfort her as much as possible, but it was no use. The death of her boyfriend had scarred her emotionally and I wondered if she would ever recover.

As time went on, Kazumi began to confide in me. She claimed that sometimes, when she woke up in the middle of the night, she would see her boyfriend standing at her bedside. His face was bloody and disfigured and his eyes were wide, staring at her in the darkness. It terrified her.

She had also noticed things in her apartment being moved when she wasn’t there. Sometimes, when she came home, she would find the cutlery in the kitchen neatly lined up on the table or cushions on the couch lying on the floor. Often, she would receive phone calls from her boyfriend’s cell phone number. When she answered, all she heard on the other end of the line was silence.

Kazumi was convinced that her boyfriend was haunting her.

“He’s angry at me because i caught him cheating,” she said in a hoarse voice. “Maybe he wants to kill me or maybe he’s trying to drive me so crazy that I end up killing myself…”

The stress of the situation was having a terrible effect on her. She was in a deep depression and wasn’t showing any signs that she would get out of it. As time went on, she became pale and wan and grew more and more tired and sickly.

I wanted to help her, so I started staying overnight at her apartment to keep her company. The situation began to get worse. Some nights, she would cry out in her sleep and in the morning, she often woke up with red marks around her throat as if someone had been trying to strangle her.

“I can’t take much more of this…” Kazumi told me.

Her physical and mental strength had been stretched to their limits. I knew something had to be done before she lost her mind.

The next day, I contacted a psychic. It was an old man who was said to be able to communicate with the dead. When I told him about Kazumi and the circumstances of her boyfriend’s death, the old man came straight over to see her.

After spending some time alone in her bedroom, the old man came out with a grave look on his face.

“You are correct,” he said. “I feel the presence of a man here.”

Just then, the old man closed his eyes and raised his hand in the air.

“No!” he exclaimed. “You must leave this room at once.”

Suddenly, he opened his eyes, grabbed us both roughly and pushed us out of the bedroom. Kazumi and I were very afraid. We didn’t understand what was going on.

As soon as we left the room, we heard the sound of breaking glass. The mirror had suddenly shattered into tiny pieces. It made us jump. Kazumi was clinging to me and she had tears in her eyes.

“That’s a bad sign,” said the old man. “Tell me more about what you experienced.”

Kazumi explained how she had fought with her boyfriend because of his cheating. She gave more details about her boyfriend’s appearance beside her bed and the marks around her neck.

“I will have to perform an exorcism,” said the old man.

He lit some candles and burned some sage in the bedroom. Then, he created a circle of salt on the floor and closed the door. We waited in the kitchen with bated breath, listening to the muffled sound of him chanting.

After an hour had passed, the old man came out. He looked tired and drained.

“The exorcism was successful,” he announced. “This apartment is clean. However, there is something I must tell you…”

“What is it?” Kazumi asked.

“Your boyfriend never cheated on you,” the old man said. “The woman you saw him with was a spirit. This woman was haunting him. She was so obsessed with him that she caused his death so she could be with him. However, your boyfriend’s spirit was still attached to you. The woman was trying to strangle you in your sleep. She wanted you out of the way so she could have your boyfriend for herself.”

Kazumi was stunned. It was all too much for her to take in. She could barely speak.

“So then… you mean…” she whispered, as tears started rolling down her cheeks.

“Yes,” said the old man. “Your boyfriend was trying to protect you. He appeared at your bedside to warn you that you were in danger.”

Kazumi broke down weeping on the spot and fell to her knees. She kept repeating, “Sorry,” over and over again.

From that day on, the paranormal phenomena stopped completely. Kazumi’s health improved steadily and soon she was her usual cheerful self.

One day, when she was cleaning her bedroom, she moved the bed and found something lying underneath. It was a small box. She realized that this was what her boyfriend had thrown against the wall before he left.

With trembling fingers, she opened the little box and looked inside. It contained a ring.

Her boyfriend had died the day before their anniversary. He had been planning to ask her to marry him.

Many years have passed since then, but Kazumi never got married. The last time I saw her, that ring was still on her finger.
